The Wandering Scholar

An Opera by Gustav Holst & Clifford Bax.

The Northern Opera Group are doing a free 30 minute performance in Skipton Town Hall's Exhibition Gallery on Sunday 14th May at 12pm.

The Northern Opera Group is passionate about live opera - participating, attending, and enjoying.

Through collaborating with artists, venues, and companies, Northern Opera Group performs rare and wonderful operas in imaginative ways.

"Opera might not be for everyone, but we believe that it can be for anyone."

On 13th and 14th May 2017, the Northern Opera Group will be touring Holst’s riotous comedy, ‘The Wandering Scholar’, to audiences in North and West Yorkshire.

Inspired by a traditional Mummers’ Play, they will be hotfooting it between venues, offering performances for free and only using set and props that we can carry around on our journey with us!

A wayward wife and the local priest look to take advantage of her husband’s absence - but they don’t bargain on a poor (and mischievous) ‘wandering scholar’ interrupting their plans …

Performed by a leading professional cast and sung in English, don’t miss this rare opportunity to see one of the greatest comedic operas performed in some of the region’s finest venues.

Performances last 30 minutes and are free and unticketed. Seating is limited in each venue, however seating will be available for those who require it.

Performed by permission of Faber Music.
